Staff: The twentieth of March was going to be a big day for Fedora users: Fedora Core 5 Release Day.

But the party was spoiled when the FC5 team announced that the new core won’t let you load any non-GPL modules.

This gave frustrated Fedora users yet another chance to let off steam. Their predominant gripe: Fedora has become too darned experimental and unstable, causing some users to switch to friendlier climes. Many long for the halcyon days of Red Hat.

Others wonder why FC5 folk don’t withhold release till the “trivial” fix is in… and darkly speculate about hidden agendas.

The fact that every upgrade requires a four CD download of the entire package, (instead of just the changes) still ruffles feathers. And users took this opportunity to complain about it… again.

And of course cheerleaders for every viable Linux alternative seized the day, touting the relative benefits of their favorite flavors.

Microsofties who whine that everybody’s always picking on them aren’t paying attention.
